About the Author
Grace Ramirez was born in Miami, and spent most of her adult years in New York. She worked as a producer and director at Nickelodeon, MTV, then the Food Network. Even though "La Latina" is all about tradition, it is nothing like your abuela's cookbook.I got my first copy as soon as it came out, and now I'm getting a couple for my mom and best friend. It makes for a GREAT gift because it's a book that's functional, but most importantly it looks amazing.This is a hard cover book that will look great on your coffee table. On the outside, it fits right next to my Taschen art books. Inside the photography and styling is beautiful. The recipes are hands down the best staples from Latin American cuisine. My favorite recipes are Pisco Sour and Lomo Saltado.Bottom line... "La Latina" is a must have!
I can't recommend La Latina enough. I'm British but recently married a Latino from Colombia, what nailed the proposal was all the yummy food i was able to create from this fabulous cook book. Grace's enthusiasm for culture and cuisine 'pops' from this 288 page cookbook of Latina deliciousness. Every page is rich in content, the pictures and story of each dish are as mouthwatering as the dishes themselves. Too many favorites to mention from cocktails to deserts and appetizers to mains - something for everyone and simple recipes for any level.
This cookbook is extraordinary in so many ways. It's an absolute delight for all the senses; every inch of it is beautifully art directed so it's an experience just to look at it. The recipes are broken down in a clear matter and they are as magnificently delicious as they look. I've traveled extensively through South America, so the recipes are authentic and although I've been a follower of the food culture there for well over a decade,I learned so much from Chef Ramirez's take on the cuisine's history. Her writing style is welcoming and full of the kind of anecdotes that make you feel like you are getting an insider's perspective at a dinner party. A delightful book- 5 stars for sure.
A wonderful book that transports you throughout Latin America, learning not only from different cultures, but hundreds of colors and flavors. Just by looking at the pictures of the book, it already causes you to start a new experience in the kitchen. Totally recommended. For something is called the Bible of Latin American food
In love with this book! I'm a 2nd generation Cuban-American that had never made arroz con pollo! I was intimidated before but the easy to understand recipes and gorgeous pictures make me feel I'm ready to take on one country at a time. Highly recommend it as a gift too.
I don't consider myself a foodie. I can't cook. I've never read or used a recipe, needless to say, never used a cookbook before.... But when I saw this book, the stories, the images, the combination of my grandma's cooking and the cultural experiences... I was back at home. I was back in Colombia. I felt like I traveled through Latin America via a culinary journey. This is a perfect gift for anyone who is a foodie and an even better gift for Mother's Day!
If you have never taken a trip thru latin America this beautifully illustrated book is your DELICIOUS culinary tour guide. From Mexico to Venezuela to even a touch of the Caribbean Chef Grace's recipes are not only easy to read and make but a mouth watering explosion. Love that I added this to my collection of cookbooks.
