Colonel Fawcett's book/journals only further illustrate my point because real life exploration is quite serious and dangerous, and often teaches you life lessons that you'll soon not forget. Some can be a choice of life & death.Fawcett's time spent in South America is something that I'd never heard of until only a few months ago and I learned of it simply by taking up a book and reading.

While in an airport terminal I bought Lost City of Z so I knew about Col. Fawcett. Anyone expecting this to be Indiana Jones will sadly be disappointed. If you love exploration, real roughing it, share a willingness to take risks along with history and study of man in one of the worst places on earth to survive this is an excellent read.

Written in an old style by the youngest son of Percy Fawcett, this is where much of the inspiration for the major motion picture adaptation of the Lost City of Z came from. The book was written at a time when it was still possible that the explorer was still alive and when many speculated he had gone native. It's a great insight to the man and his motivations as well.

Wonderful read, much seeming if not first hand by the man himself, making this a great first hand source and account. Because of this the telling is linear, no bouncing back and forth in time and place. The story begins with his first assignment as a cartographer to help determine a boundary in South America, and then goes to other assignments doing same for others. A very good way into the book there start to be ethnographic and geo political, the in even smaller scale nuances that seem to provoke the author that there is 'something there' that academics of his time had not imagined. Amazing astute observations of the vile corruption of the times and inhumanity to man, with the native peoples always losing, struck me many times how unfunny (and how that still happens) because of resources and greed. So it is far more than a put this foot in front of the other Indiana Jones fiction - this person has a conscience and compassion, no two dimensional character here, and in many places almost advocates for intoxicating and .enlightening aspects of native tribes and peoples. So be prepared to learn a little if not a lot very unpleasant history regarding the rubber trade and South American slavery. There were many parts about this that I found very difficult to read and doubt Hollywood will include?Any way, the lost City of Z doesn't come into the book until maybe the final quarter? No mention at all until then. Keep in mind that historically what was happening in the archeological world with the Maya, Egypt, Babylon, Minoan Crete, the crazes, the times... who knows what? maybe a lost world?I found the book a compelling account of his thoughts, his times, his travels, interests, personality. It functions as an anthropological work while retaining honest there at the times adventure. The historical character and understanding you can gain into a small part of the South American 'games of money and thrones' and it's impact on today should not be minimized.Well worth taking the time to read on many levels.

This book was a terrific read UNTIL I got so interested that I started to research it. I was so disappointed that it is a fraud. You have to do a couple of searches to find the fraud In my opinion that happened by FAWCETT S ONLY LIVING SON. It ruined the entire book and the history of it.

Fantastic account of one of the greatest explores of the early 20th Century, in South America. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves History, and a great adventure story!

Mildly amusing in some spots, but lacks the “punch” that I remember from classic Mad magazines of my youth.

Not worth it

Funny and clever the whole way through. No opponent of this regime should miss this book. MAD Magazine is tougher on Trump than the Democrats--and funnier. Not just about Trump, it also rips Rosie O'Donnell, Pope Francis, and some other celebrities. Well worth the price.

I guess one of the perks of winning a presidential election is that you get to be skewered by humor magazines like MAD. In this volume they give Trump the expected going over. There are enough Clinton shots that it's quite clear they could have turned their guns on Hillary had the election turned out differently.This book follows the tried and true MAD method. A lot of one page poster bits, (repositioning popular movies and such as Trump features). Lots of one page joke ideas, (for example, Trump quotes opposite quotes from the Bible). There aren't too many long form cartoons or parodies, which was fine by me because sometimes they can be pretty labored, (for example, a Zombie Apprentice line up featuring dead celebrities went on way too long). Peppered throughout are one page checklists of Trump v. Clinton, or Trump v. The Pope, and so on, comparing their stats like two opposing boxers. They were especially clever. Lots of rewritten songs, (Christmas carols and the like), that had some witty rhymes and jokes. There's a great deal of photoshopping, which of course is new to people who grew up on 60's and 70's MAD. For example, I got a kick out of how all of the Republican contenders were dressed and posed for a fake J. Crew catalogue.It's hard to keep this sort of thing up for an entire book, (hair jokes, Trump University jokes, and so on), but they do their best with the material at hand. There aren't any deep cuts or penetrating takedowns. This is Jay Leno/Jimmy Fallon territory and the humor is PG-13. But that said, there were a few chuckles and grins, and some of the individual bits were very clever.All in all this was exactly what I would expect from a MAD style book, and I'd suggest that how you feel about MAD and its approach to topical humor will probably dictate, (along with your degree of loyalty or opposition to Trump), how much you enjoy this book.(Please note that I received a free advance will-self-destruct-in-x-days Adobe Digital copy of this book without a review requirement, or any influence regarding review content should I choose to post a review. I grew up with MAD magazine; it fits my sense of humor well.I was thinking of purchasing the latest "serious" top-selling books about the current President, but since things are going from bad to worse in this administration, I wanted to lighten up my perspective. Ah, this just fit the bill !

MAD About Trump is quite funny if you're not a Trump follower. They should have gone deeper into some specific criticisms, such as Trump's legal problems, his attack on the environment, and so on, but there are several pieces in here that are especially witty. I plan to hang the fake diploma from the fake Trump University on my wall. Maybe one fourth of the book I found rather lame. But overall it was funny and I'm glad I bought it.

A few good hits but mostly just like a copy of Mad Magazine at a much bigger price.

We got the book to read, and made it most of the way through before our mastiff ate it. Up to that point, we enjoyed it. After that point, the dog did, too.

There are basically two groups of people in this country, when it comes to the big topic of relations with allies, the UN, and US global diplomacy.One group feels we need to "reach out" to allies and listen to them before formulating policy (or, perhaps just do what they want, so they'll stop hating us), respect and follow "international law", and for the most part, subordinate our considerable power to international institutions, which mostly means the United Nations.The other group believes there is no such thing as "international law", it being a catchy buzzword for a collection of politics, largely unenforceable treaties, and anti-US "norming" by non-state actors; no such thing as an "international community", an absurd construct that implies a a global "consensus" which doesn't exist but from which we're constantly accused of being "isolated"; that yes, of course we should have allies and friends but pleasing them should not come before defending and promoting our own national interests, and that the UN is a corrupt and unaccountable bureaucracy which oscillates between "total uselessness" and "serious liability to the United States" - an organization that, if we're going to continue participating in at all, should at least be forced to serve as a useful tool of American interests, as was clearly the intent at its founding.Of course, those are opposite ends of a continuum, and there are many people in the middle.John Bolton, former US Ambassador to the UN, is the world's leading proponent of the latter camp - the UN skeptics who don't necessarily think we should ditch the UN, but who do believe strongly that we should be leveraging the UN to extend American power, and should more strenuously fight the UN's ongoing evolution into the key global collection point for anti-US propaganda and policy.If you are already a Boltonite (as I am, obviously), you will not only find this book convincing and authentic, but hugely refreshing, too, in confirming what you believe, backing it up with facts and the "inside scoop", and articulately stating the fundamental arguments against US submission to the UN or "international community" agenda. I have so many times asked myself questions like: Why exactly do we care what Belgium thinks? What specifically is an "international community", and where does it live? What gives the UN, an unelected colony of bureaucrats who we don't get to choose, evaluate, hold accountable, or fire, the right to pass judgment on or influence the policies chosen by democratic peoples via their elected representatives (in the US and elsewhere)? Is that not completely antithetical to the basic thrust of history since the 18th century - power to free people, expressed through their elected officials? Aside from the dismal practices of the UN, even the underlying theory of the UN is such a huge step backwards: subordination and gradual erosion of the sovereignty of freely-elected governments to a secretive, unelected elite. That should bother people a lot more than it does, and is a point made very articulately and persuasively in Bolton's book. Finally, UN skeptics ask what all those UN committees, memoranda, reports, "high level groups", "special rapporteurs", etc. etc., actually accomplish - would the world be any worse off if it was all just tossed in the garbage? With so many people, worldwide and in the US, too, supporting the UN monstrosity, it's easy to feel self-doubt as a UN skeptic, because not many of us have the self-confidence and knowledge-base of a John Bolton. Well, this book will get like-minded people back on track and confident that, yes, in fact, the special rapporteurs and high level groups and UN special committees - all of it is a bunch of pointless nonsense, or worse, basically a way for second-rate European powers to regain through soft power and "norming" what they've already lost in the arena of hard power, combined with a way for thousands upon thousands of anti-US bureaucrats all over the world to come together in one place to do some serious US ankle-biting, and maybe score some gains for their own countries' or regions' interests while harranguing us for pursuing our own. All under the banner of the UN, with its post-WW2 legitimacy and grandeur which we bestowed on it, and continue to fund. And house.If you are one of the "We need to work with the International Community" or "we need to respect international humanitarian law" (whatever that is!) crowd, you'll probably disagree with most of this book, or just plain not understand what the heck Bolton is talking about.It's a damn shame Bolton's out of the US government. It really is. He is a unique individual with a powerful voice. Without him, the current administration is adrift. He was the antidote to the sappy, Europhile lefists running the State Department, along with a third or so of the US public, who are falling all over themselves trying to meet an impossible, insatiable global demand for apologetic regret on the part of the US for being what it is - successful, powerful, and dominant. I highly recommend this book to people who want to learn the real deal about Bolton and the incredibly tedious, and implacably obnoxious, American-power-sucking institution known as the United Nations.P.S. I was quite taken aback by how funny this book is. Bolton has some superbly witty and humorous observations on many topics in government and diplomacy, and especially, as you'd expect, the United Nations. I literally laughed out loud at least a dozen times. Sounds strange, but it's true. There's just a level of poignant directness in this book that leads to some very amusing and telling observations about politics.I start many, many books on current events and politics, but I rarely finish them, usually getting bored after around 100-150 pages. This book - I read every single word on every page, and I'm going to go back and reread it.

Bush. His Reagan administration work helped to prepare him for the Bush years (beginning as an undersecretary to Colin Powell until appointment as US Ambassador to the United Nations).The retired Ambassador describes, with precision, various people and events that shaped history from 2000 to 2006. He has immense respect for Bork, Buckley, Powell, Rumsfeld, Cheney, McCain, and Bush (disliking, particularly, Annan, Eliasson, and career diplomats). Bolton says that US's closest friends at the UN ("Turtle Bay") are Israel, Palau, and the Marshall Islands. Canada is often a go-between among hostile nations. Britain and France at home with the UN's "culture of inaction" often vote for appeasement. On all issues Russia adopts its former Soviet politics while China remains an unknown, but predictable, factor.Bolton, at the UN epicenter, understands the Human Rights Council to be always "directed against Israel", supports Japanese efforts for Security Council permanent membership, and witnesses Kofi Annan's deviousness, incompetence, and corruption during the Food for Oil scandal. Although he supported, and worked for, Ban Ki-moon's UN Secretary Generalship in late 2006, Bolton ends the book concerned for the South Korean's ability to change the UN's determined culture of passive inactivity.This recommended book is a good, but long, read. Hopefully, Bolton will write more history of the United Nations.

John Bolton's book "Surrender Is Not An Option" should be required reading for all persons in or considering entry into the U.S. Department of State. Actually, it should be required reading for all Americans who want our coutry to be strong, independent and free of the United Nations. John not only identifys the problems that we endure through our interactions with other UN nations, but the self-inflicted embarassments we endure by our own State Department's blunders. It is not an easy read due to the many players and organizations that must be kept sorted out, but definitely a worthwhile read. I highly recommend it.

Ok, so I bought this book a couple hours ago. I finished it about 20 minutes ago. Now let me just say I don't make it a point to buy a book for 5$ if I can get cheaper. Let me just say...... it was TOTALLY worth it!!!! This book by Ms. Hardin is AWESOME. The storyline is clear, it reads so well you want to read it in a sitting (bathroom breaks of course). The characters are described well and the story takes off from the beginning. I'm pretty good at predicting but I NEVER saw that ending coming! BM Hardin was a good author when I first started reading her books. Now she is just Damn simply AMAZING. Thank you Ms. Hardin for this! (Only one thing though...... Now I'm all hyped up for the next release!!!!!! When's it coming?)

It only took me so long to read cuz I have a lot going on!! This book was so d*** fantastic!! You know its good when u dream about the situation that was taking place!! Man I tell u what at one point I ain’t gone lie but Lava was getting on my nerves, I felt like she was doing a lot of unnecessary crap but I guess love can cause you not to think clearly!!! Give Him Back is the perfect title for this book the intense & mysteriousness had you on the edge of your seat...I was not expecting that mess out of Tokyo BM Hardin lady u did that when I got to that part I was “WTF! How did she come up w/ this part” I mean that was one hell of a twist... I’m still at a lost for words right now thinking bout it smdh!! I enjoyed every single moment of this book as I do all of BM Hardin books GREAT 👍🏽 GREAT 👍🏽 GREAT 👍🏽 JOB!!! 👏🏽🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Oh my goodness,where do I start from this book,and the shady characters in it. You didn't know friend from foe husband from wife,man from woman just a cocktail of straight up mess. B.M.Hardin,the author always has plots and twists and turns that you never expect and she outdone herself on this one. Great job ,I expect nothing but the best from her ,keep them coming. Get this book!!!

After reading this book you will be wondering who should you trust. BM Hardin has done an awesome job in writing this story. It has a lot of twists in it. You will connect with the characters instantly.The author just has a way of developing a story that makes you wonder how does she come up with it. I found myself talking to the characters in the book. LOL.I look forward to reading more books by this author.

This book will keep you on the edge of your seat. The drama is intense. The emotions will be all over the place. Honestly I don’t know who was really the bad one or the victim because nothing seems to be what you think. This author has a wonderful talent. She throws you into some loops that you will even second guess yourself. Lava was a mess. How can you criticize your husband when you were doing exactly the same? This book is a must read and the best of all...... it’s a stand-alone so no to be continued. You will find out how everything unravels in one sitting.

Wow I don't know where to start. This book had so many twists and turns it's similar to a maze lol. I had to do a few double backs just to make sure I was reading what I was. What some people will do for love or should I say claiming rights is borderline crazy. Personally it's never that deep. Loved Thea's character a true ride or die friend. This book brings true meaning to the phrase "You Can't Trust Everybody" . Only reason I don't give it the 5 stars is because of some grammatical errors. This is a must read. If you like page turners then this is the book for you. Good job B.M Hardin

Sigh. The only bad thing about her books is that I read them too fast! I tried to slow down and make it last at least two days, but you get caught up and before you know it, you are done! Fast-paced with all kinds of twists, once again Ms.Hardin takes you on a ride! I just want to know where does she get this stuff from! I loved it and I patiently (not really) wait for her next book.

I work in claims & risk management for an insurance broker. I purchased this book for myself four years ago. It quickly became my Bible for helping accounts develop sustainable safety cultures. I have purchased at least three additional copies for people responsible for safety programs at three of our accounts. In the opinion of all of us, the info in this book is useful, immediate, practical.The book is filled with summaries, sample forms, detailed chapters. Being somewhat modular, I frequently pick and choose certain sections for certain accounts depending on where the account is on the spectrum of safety program and safety culture evolution. Very easy to use; in depth; flows logically.I strongly recommend it as a primary reference for developing and strengthening safety programs and sustainable safety cultures.

"Developing an Effective Safety Culture" has made a significant difference in the safety culture in the facility where I currently work. The book was clear and concise in helping lead management in the direction that needed to be taken to change the culture in the "right" direction. Safety goals and objectives have since been achieved, using the book's guidance, that have never been done in the forty year history of this manufacturing facility. I would recommend this book to anyone in the safety field or anyone who has a management role or anyone who has a stalemate at their facility and wants new ideas on how to change their safety culture for the better.

I am living in Turkey and our country is one of the countries in the World which has a dramatic number of casualities due to workplace accidents. One of these accidents is still fresh in our hearts: We lost 301 people in an accident at SOMA Turkey in a coal mine. As an engineer in the fields for more then 20 years I learned that most of the accidents root cause depend on the cultural behaviour. This book by James Roughton is a systematic and clear book written on these cultural aspect of safety with applicable suggestions which if applied properly may save many peoples lives. I hope to apply these knowledge to my country which needs such actions tremendously.

Author Roughton's book is remarkably clear and concise, affording a comprehensive perspective on the context and content of an effective safety culture.Those interested in creating such a culture will understand that the emphasis on safety must become an integral part of the organization from top management to the operating worker. This book describes the path to that end, as opposed to simply describing a tool to be used and set aside.

This should be a required college or university class book as a senior level for any degree. Regardless of the company you end up working for OSHA has their hand in what you can and cannot do. If everyone in management follows this line of thinking it will benifit individuals and the company they work for.

Overall the text is quite good in explaining safety management concepts which are highly effective.I believe it would make a good text for a safety management course.The book gets into some topics that aren't needed to explain the concepts presented making the text larger than necessary. There is some redundancy of information in the way the text is structured / written.I purchased additional copies for clients.Definitely a worthwhile read for safety managers without a business systems background or managers needing to understand how to insert safety management aspects into an existing performance management process. Good stuff for a great system, but not as good as others in the Weird Wars line.

Created in 2013 after a successful kickstarter campaign , Weird Wars: Rome is a slender, strangely sized booklet - it sticks out on the shelf - that's short on page count but chock-full of good stuff.The premise is classic: the horrors of war are real and are feeding on violence and misery, so that supernatural creatures and monsters become very real... in ancient Rome.The basic handbook provides all that we expect from a Savage Worlds setting - characters, new setting rules, a good, quick but solid overview of the gaming world.Just add the SW handbook.A number of military campaigns is outlined in the handbook - ready to play.* the Second Punic War* the Third Macedonian War* the Fall of Carthage* the De Bello Gallico* the Invasion of Britain* the Boudicca Rebellion* the Jewish Rebellion* the Germanic WarsLike other titles in the Weird Wars line (such as **Weird War II**), the game is geared towards miniature tactical action. In this sense, we can imagine scenarios in which our Roman Legionaries will first discover and investigate the horror, and than take it on in combat, on the field.Now, I'm not so hot about using miniatures - after all, I've played Savage Worlds in a car, on the road, and in a number of other situations in which there was barely room for the dice - but Weird Wars: Rome is clearly one of the settings that really shines when the miniatures are on the table.Another great feature of Weird Wars: Rome is the *Legatum* mechanics - a simple system that, while deepening the setting and making characters more connected with it, allows the keeper to run a multi-generational campaign, running through the whole of Roman history, from the Republic to the twilight of the Empire.This is a fascinating opportunity, and it is very much in line with the Roman mindset, with the centrality of family and ancestry.With the Legatum, sons may fight the enemies of their fathers.The artwork is very fine, and there's a wealth of extras and accessories out there - handbooks, maps, paper miniatures, the works.All in all, an excellent addition to my collection.

Although not new to the roleplaying scene (25+ years as either a game-master or player), I am a recent convert to the Savage Worlds rule-set. I’ve tried most systems over my two plus decades of gaming at the table and this particular one works incredibly well, especially for those of us with busy work and family schedules (i.e. not enough time to plan/prep campaigns). As a result of my enthusiasm for Savage Worlds, I own the Deluxe core rules, the Fantasy Companion, The Horror Companion, as well as the Beasts and Barbarians supplements from GRAMEL. I recently took a bit of a chance on the Weird Wars Rome (WWR) supplement and am coming out of this purchase with mixed feelings.As indicated already, the book’s size is non-standard compared to the core line, which means it completely sticks out of the lot. Not a huge deal but worth noting nonetheless.The artwork is decent, although a bit too ‘graphic novel’ like for my taste. But then again, this is in line with the art found in other Savage Worlds supplements. Chalk it up to the ‘pulp’ feel of the rule-set.My biggest disappointment is with the level of content, which is most definitely on the short side.The historical background was nicely written, although one could argue it pales in comparison to what can be freely extracted from even a cursory search on Google.The use of ‘latin’ words to describe equipment, military ranks, and army structure is of course a nice touch (expected, actually) but this is more of an ‘introduction’ to what could have been a grand book on the Roman Empire. We are talking about a roughly 500-year period of history (not counting the Byzantine era); there’s plenty of material to draw from there. Where are the detailed rules on political intrigue? What about mass combat (using tactics specific to the Roman army), with stat blocks for opposing armies (Carthage, Macedonia, Germania, Gaul, etc…)? What about a section on religion, which I was expecting given the angle this book takes?I buy these supplements for mostly one reason: I am too busy to sit down for hours to concoct campaigns, NPCs, monsters, or artifacts. I buy supplements to first and foremost provide me with 1) stat blocks for everything from objects to baddies, 2) adventure/campaign ideas, and 3) setting flavor.The introductory campaigns are interesting, but again, the content is simply too light. The broad strokes are sketched out but you are really left to fill in the gaps; and a lot of gaps there are (especially for the Legacy plot point campaign).On the whole, and as indicated already, I think this book is a missed opportunity to explore a defining time in history and translate that over to the fantastic Savage Worlds system.My bottom-line assessment is that out of all the supplements I currently own for the Savage World rule-set, I would rate this one as the most disappointing (I’m sorry to say).

This is a really nice book for children who are wanting to learn more about Pandas, their habits and their habitats. The pictures are nice and big and the information the book provides is good enough to teach anyone a little something. I was surprised with the low price that this was so well put together. Recommended to other parents.

My son had to do a research piece for second grade. He's a good reader, didn't have any problems reading and understanding this book. I like that though this is full of excellent facts, it still has beautiful engaging photos and interesting facts, easy table of contents, and beautiful, easy to read layout, color and sections.

We love this entire series of animal books for kids. My 2nd grader did a report using this book. The pictures are stunning and facts are easy for kids to understand.

I'm an avid "Panda Cam" watcher of the baby panda at The National Zoo in Washington DC. I have introduced my god child to MeiXing and BeiBei through the panda cam and she was captivated. I ordered the age appropriate national Geographic book on pandas so she could really learn about them. It's a great book for her age and she loves it.

My son, who is homeschooled, enjoyed reading this book. We were learning about pandas, and this gave him some extra facts. I do wish it was a little longer though.

My sons LOVE looking at the pictures of the pandas. National Geographic books are awesome. Short paragraphs and interesting facts. LOVE that this includes a page on the red panda!

Used with on level and above level reading ability students in first grade to teach research and text features. Students were completely engaged!

Bought our 6 year old granddaughter a stuffed panda, thought it would be nice to give her a book as well. Love this. It will be something she will be able to read herself, and is full of Panda info.
