Wonderful book including drawings, conceptual sketches etc.I will treasure it! Only complaint is to Amazon, as they mailed copy with dings on all eight cover corners and a gouge in the lower back cover.When I order/ pay for a new book (especially one this beautiful) I expect it to arrive in cellophane or at least undamaged. Book did not look new.

I've always been a big fan of Winnie-the-Pooh, and especially of E.H. Shepard's illustrations, for Pooh and for other books. What a pleasure to get details of his life and his art processes, to have photos and also lots of illustrations I hadn't seen before. Any fan of Pooh, E.H. Shepard, or even art-in-evolution, will enjoy this handsome volume.

I read this in one day..it's an absolutely gorgeous recounting of how the collaboration of Milne and Shephard came about, as well as their solitary achievements in life. Book is filled with gorgeous sketches never seen before...this is a book to be treasured for any art fan or fan of The Winnie the Pooh brand.

I bought this as a gift for my girlfriend who has a childhood nostalgia for winnie the poo. The book itself is nice quality and seems to be filled with many interesting tidbits and cute illustrations however, i did have to order twice as both books came damaged. I kept the lesser damaged one and sent the other back.

I really enjoyed this book. The biographical detail intertwined with the play-by-play of the publication of the Winnie-the-Pooh books was detailed but never burdensome. The language seems meant for young readers but conveys the story very well. The numerous illustrations that are all explained in the text is a rare-find and highly appreciated.

This is a wonderful history of the work of EH Shepard showing all the Illustrations for A A Milne’s books and in depth story of Shepard’s career

Lots of history about creation of Winnie-the -Pooh. Fun to read.

In preparation for and during a trip to the Upper Midwest, I read this and other Olson collections. Readers who expect a linear exegesis of the Canadian wilderness will be disappointed, since Olson did very little in a linear way. Rather, this is an impressionistic and rambling journey through Olson's experiences north and south of the border. He evokes the world of loons and lakes as no one else can; however, the reader can't help but come away with the impression that he found muskeg and tundra far less interesting, and certainly less visually stunning, than his beloved Quetico-Superior wilderness. There's almost nothing here on people, customs, or other aspects of life in the far Northwest; instead, you're just spending some hours, or days, with Siggy and his Kalevalistic prose. This isn't bad -- in fact, it's pleasurable -- but readers should be aware that the description of this book on Amazon is not the book you will actually read.

One of my all-time favorite authors who writes about his experience as a ranger in border country of the Superior National Forest Wilderness (called Quetico Superior then). His style is so lyrical I've used his books to read aloud to seniors in nursing homes who can't go outside anymore. Another of his books that paints a clear picture and records all the aspects of nature for the reader is The Singing Wilderness. A well-crafted read, immersing you in the spiritual beauty and peace of Nature.

Made to read slowly and savor

We have been to Northern Minnesota, where this author has written several books. When you read them, they truly take you to the woods and the lakes of this beautiful area. I am sure that anyone will enjoy reading them but especially if you have had the opportunity to visit this wonderful and untouched area.

Delightful.

Interesting read, however each chapter is kinda a book of its own. I especially enjoyed the chapter on "Wild Rice"It's my first read of a book by Sigurd Olson.Will read more in the future.

The best Boundary Waters/Quetico author.... a true land of beauty, mystique, Olson captures this spirit. Worth collecting. Go there, he'll be as good or better than all your pictures come winter.

What I expected, thank you very much.

Roger does an excellent job of describing and rating some of the most beautiful places to kayak in the world.This and Robert Mohle's "Adventure Kayaking Trips from Big Sur to San Diego" give you a complete picture of the best places to kayak in California.

I purchased this for my sister and future brother-in-law as a Christmas gift - paired with an REI gift card. They loved it and to my knowledge have used it a handful of times over the past few months.

Roger and Jan's book gives seakayakers invaluable information regarding some of the most beautiful paddling areas on the west coast. The maps included with the easily understood text allow the reader to easily visualize the targeted area. This guidebook will be of interest to paddlers of all skill levels since most of the featured paddles also include intermediate and advanced level alternative routes. The sidebars scattered throughout the book impart interesting information about the area. This book is a must have for those interested in exploring the coast of California.

If you like to paddle on the Calif coast, this is the book for you. My wife and I have paddled (we thought) most of the coast, this book brought us to places that we could only dream of.
