Love this book...have had lovely rides on it. Hey, can we have installment 2 please? Maps could be a little more detailed. Nice descriptions, great locations.

This book is a classic. The book is now more than 20 years old, so some of the rides are outdated, but almost all of them are just as beautiful and rideable as they originally were. Do the Cape Ann ride every year, and Howard's description is still perfectly correct.

While the other reviewers appear to be very satisfied with this book, I have to disagree. I have now tried three different rides in this book throughout MA, and EVERY one of them had significant errors or unclear directions at various points along the route. I would only suggest buying this book as a guide of where to bike, but NOT to use it routes.When I tried one of the rides recently, the directions indicated the rider to "bear left" at a non-existed merge, while the map showed a hard right. The correct path to follow turned out to be a hard left (greater than 90 degree turn). There was another error on the same route.

I've been using this book for several years. The rides are consistently well thought out with regards to safety, accessibility, scenic interest and level of difficulty. However, you are going to have to re-write the directions for yourself in a way that isn't completely incomprehensible. Side notes and points of interest are fine, but a cue sheet needs to be clean and clear. The author separates street names, turn directions and distances over several lines, often putting the end position first, or worse, never even gives a street name amongst the muddle.This book in conjunction with your mapping website or GPS is a great resource for novice and intermediate riders.

I have enjoyed many of the rides detailed in this book. They are among the most scenic I have experienced. But the author goes beyond simply choosing routes based on scenery, terrain, mileage, etc. He also seems to have a knowledge and appreciation for the different elements of the routes themselves. It's not uncommon for him to mention historical highlights of the communities the rides pass through, or the significance of landmarks along the routes. What the cyclist gets from this book is not just "go 1.2 miles, turn left and go to the end", but also a wealth of information about the rides that adds a whole new dimension to the cycling experience. This book is a must for anyone who enjoys a good bike ride.

I have completed the entire book -- every lab -- and it is excellent.Two observations, if I may:1) I have seen some reviewers complain about grammatical errors and\or typos. Pound sand. The errors, such as they are, are not soonerous that you can't figure out what the author is saying. There aren't that many of them anyway. Certainly nothing to cry about.2) I saw another reviewer who objected to the (current) fact that the author is not a CCIE. What does that have to do with the qualityand layout of the material? Nothing. Albert Einstein was a patent clerk when he published his work on relativity. How many peoplecomplained that "he's only a patent clerk?". Nobody. The quality of the material is what should be judged, not whether the authorhas certain letters after his name.The book was easy to go through, and the complexity of the network increased as more routers and more advanced options are put into place.A nice, systematic approach to delivering the material.If you can't learn a decent, fundamental working knowledge of BGP with this book, then you simply aren't trying.

Dear Mr. Stuart Fordham ( The author of this book);I Would like to thank you so much, it is very obvious that you have exerted a huge effort in writing this book which I can say it is a fingerprint in the Networking field.Your book to me is the best reference I found covering the BGP protocol.Mr. Fordham, you have very special capabilities in knowledge transfer, your mind is very well organized and know how to produce clean and clear material. Please do not stop here, go ahead and produce other and other titles.This book starts BGP from scratch and builds up the knowledge in a logical way, using clean technical language, directly to the point, up to the level, and ends up with the full picture. Really I appreciate your efforts, Mr. Fordham.I give it 7 stars and highly recommended.

I am preparing for my V5 lab next year and bought this for 4 bucks as a refresher course. No one should pick it up without being at least a CCNA/CCNP level familiar with GNS3.Being all those things - The book does a great job of setting you up with a lab topology and getting started with configuration - as new things are taught, the lab focuses on various parts of BGP required for the exam. At 4 dollars, this is a great way to get rolling on your BGP basics. Preparing for the CCIE (and I'm borrowing this from an INE slide) generally follows 4 steps1. - gain a basic understanding2. - gain basic hands-on experience to reinforce and expand your understanding3. - gain an expert level of understanding4. - gain an expert level of hands-onI believe this book covers 1. and 2. very well.Having said that there are a few gotchas here and there - Outputs shown in the book don't always match the lab. In some instances I had to go undo other parts of the lab to make the next section relevant (removing a blocked router so a lab router had two paths again) - sometimes that kind of thing is good as it forces you to do your own troubleshooting, but it felt a little more strained as the course went on. The author has an errata page up at his website and could probably add a few more things to it -I might have liked basic configs for each chapter or for some of the smaller labs with configs that weren't documented well, but again, this sort of thing then improves troubleshooting - (so does fat fingering stuff which I did A LOT)for the price you just can't beat a nice pre-configured GNS3 setup and structured labs/material like this - it won't get you all the way but is a good start - it sounds like the author is also going for his CCIE and will be releasing more material for MPLS and IGP at a future date - I went thru it all in about 12 hrs or so at a moderately fast speed but I am BGP cisco certified and have been doing this stuff for over 10 years. I would recommend it to anyone looking to expand their BGP knowledge within cisco IOSRB

This is a great book for anyone interested in learning BGP. It is written in plain English so the reader does not get lost with complicated technical explanations and it goes straight to the point. What I love the most about this book is that the author includes a GNS3 topology, which anyone can download and follow the exact configurations and "show" output as you read the book. Also, the author had in mind an important purchasing factor: Budget. You do not need to buy expensive gear to learn BGP and the book itself is priced so that anyone can buy it.

While I'd agree with others that this isn't necessarily going to be a CCIE level book it will definitely help your understanding of BGP, and for the price it's very hard to argue with. I'd definitely suggest this book if you're looking for examples and applications of BGP and how to tune it. Mr.Fordham provides and excellent lab topology for GNS3. Coupling this with a foundation from other study guides and RFC 4271 has definitely been beneficial.

Well written book for a CCIE candidate. Stuart takes you from the basics to an advanced understanding of BGP in the most precise and concise volume that I have read yet. Do not forget to get his follow up MPLS volume to complete your understanding of MP-BGP. I wish that I could find similar works on other technologies.

I've been through about 80% of this book, and it's pretty good at explaining the different advanced BGP concepts.I'm referring to Conditional Routing, Inject Maps, etc. The author created a very good lab scenario with GNS3 toexplain all his concepts.You can also re-create the lab with GNS3, and turn on just a few routers to do a variety of labs. This book has helpeda lot with BGP.

I really like this book! It has looks of config which is perfect for referencing. This one will make it to my reference book collection.

The Deluxe Edition came in a sturdy red, fabric finished "folio" style case. It opens up to reveal the book sitting in the recessed compartment, and on the back of the front cover an envelope is attached, the flap opens to reveal a "Tarot" card Luigi has designed. There are 3 different cards: BIM, BUM & BAM. Of the 900 copies of this edition, each set of 300 has it's own card. Mine was the 1st card "BIM" #278/300. It is signed by both Serafini & another person... whom I have yet to figure out the identity (around this person's signed name, is a seal that says: Polecenella Cetrulo 'Nventore". If anyone can shed light on this I would appreciate it). The card is made of decently heavy stock and is pretty big at like 7" x 12" - ish...beautifully illustrated with bright inks, the art style, present only on this card, is similar to the type of art he made for "Il Conglio D'oro", in that it seems to be computer generated in some way, rather than his usual Prismacolor®-like pencil drawings. Unfortunately mine had a piece of sticky substance, probably glue from the manufacturing, that caused a mar on the back of the card.The whole package itself comes in a brown cardboard tuck-latch protection case, double walled on the edges. Affixed to the front is a glossy paper detailing the books attributes, with a few photos, one of which reveals the specific card you get within the book. This paper also tells you which book copy # you got, X/900, and which card # you got, X/300. The book's hardcover front spine and back is made of some type of rough material, not similar to his other Rizzoli books, maybe this is unique to the Deluxe Edition, not sure, but it's gorgeous. The Cover of the Deluxe Edition is unique in that the picture on the botton are different, and there is a facsimile of Serafini's signature adorning the bottom. The rear cover has bright orange in the drawings, which I am not sure are present in the regular version. The paper is the same type of textured heavy stock used the "Codex Seraphinianus" & "Storie Naturali". The drawings are perfectly detailed and very very compelling, each tells it's own story, and the whole layout is that of a story or play acted out in scenes and growing, Luigi is a MASTER at his craft, and this book illustrates that in spades. Although he chose to do all the drawings in mainly plain old pencil, he throws in dashes of red pencil through most all of them. There is a multi-colored tidbit in there at one point too. It was finally on my 3rd "reading/skimming" of the book that I noticed the signed & numbered card attached to one of the last pages of the book. In the rear is where the table of contents is contained, as well as a page and a half of the only writing (with the exception of the scene names) within the book.The book is a work of art. Bravo.

Don't bother. This is nothing like his original Codex. Most illustrations are full page and only on one side. It's a cash grab based on the reputation of his previous work

Disappointing after the Codex

As a book, it's a lovely book - beautifully bound, great paper quality, and whimsical, illustrations. The illustration technique is average and the compositions are often enigmatic (not a bad thing in itself). However, I am not a big fan of this work and would have returned it if I could - no fault of the book dealer/suppler here as the book came on time and its condition was as advertised. A quick glance in a bookstore at this work would have kept in on the shelf. Still, I certainly won't complain about the great availability of everything here on the Internet. You win some and lose some.I was looking for some something more akin to Dave McKean's work in regards to Pulcinella/Petruska/Punch variations on this Commedia dell' Arte stock character. Even John Cruikshank's illustrated, albeit rough, characterizations of the Punch & Judy play are more evocative to me. If anything, this work might provoke me to more closely contemplate what's missing and go out and create/fill that gap on my own.

Anderson attempts to answer two basic questions: what it means for an organization to be "data-driven" and how to get there. Just because an org has KPI (key performance indicators) or a cool dashboard of metric doesn't mean they are "data-driven," according to Anderson, because it lacks context, is often backwards looking, a doesn't have a causal link between the metric and outcome, and the data do not drive action. In his view, data driven organizations are forward looking at predictive models, answering "when, why, who, what, where," then using that to make decisions. Key to a data-driven organization (although it might seem obvious, it's actually not) are timely, relevant, and trustworthy quality data. He covers this topic pretty well, in a general way that would be good for non-data people to read. Although GIGO (garbage in, garbage out) is well-known by data wonks, sometimes management is more interested in the cool-looking interactive metric, even when it is relatively meaningless.Anderson talks a lot about an "analytics value chain" (data drives reports, to deeper drives and further analyses that get to a decision maker who changes strategies). Anderson emphasizes the culture of the organization is very important in being able to implement this type of work, and recognizes that the culture shift may take a while to occur. He also covers storytelling with data, a/b testing, an ideal data-driven culture set-up, and privacy, ethics and risk. There are good number of references, although the visualization, decision making, and a/b testing are a little light. Another topic that is missing from the book is results-based accountability, which can be helpful for groups drowning in metrics or data and can't choose (or don't know how to) because there are so many potential options.It's pretty conversationally written, so it's a pleasant enough read, and is definitely worth the time for leaders (or people who are managing up) to think about ways to really drive forth data to action.

Paul A. Volcker worked in the United States Federal Government for almost 30 years, culminating in two terms as chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System from 1979-1987. Earlier he served as Undersecretary of the Treasury for Monetary Affairs and president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Since leaving the Federal Reserve Mr. Volcker has continued his public service: as chairman of the Volcker Alliance; as head of President Obama's Economic Recovery Advisory Board; chair of the investigation of the UN's Oil-for-Food program; and head of the committee formed by Swiss and Jewish organizations to investigate deposit accounts and other assets in Swiss banks of victims of Nazi persecution and to arrange for their disposition.Educated at Princeton, Harvard, and the London School of Economics, Mr. Volcker is a recipient of honorary doctorates from each of his "alma maters," as well as a number of other American and foreign universities.Christine Harper has been a financial reporter and editor for more than two decades. Paul Volcker (with Christine Harper) has written in a manner that is simple and clear. This means 'simple and clear' to anyone who knows anything at all about The Federal Reserve (Fed) which is the USA's Central bank. This doesn't mean that an interested reader will learn the many details connected with our central bank. It is not that kind of a book. There are many other books that will serve the purpose of explaining the "nuts and bolts' of the system. can be called a personal description in skeletal form, of Volcker's early life and education, followed by a reasonably fleshed-out account of his professional life as Chairman of the Fed, his activities thereafter, and his concerns about the future. The book is around 290 pgs. long, and has a very good 'time-line' section before the first chapter.Paul Volcker was Chairman of the Federal Reserve for 8 years, 1979-1987. During most of that time Ronald Reagan was President. The national economy was in a pickle when Volcker took over. Monetary inflation was over 10%. Dr. Volcker is best known as the Fed Chairman who stood rock solid behind the corrective course of maintaining high discount (interest) rates (up to 20%), long enough to break the back of high inflation. (High discount rates are painful to businesses but pleasurable to savers).Mr. Volcker remained active as chairman of various boards and in other ways. For example he chaired the board behind the successful investigation of corruption in the "Oil For Food" program (involving Iraq) launched in 1996. Another example of post-Gov't. work is as chairman of the so-called "Volcker Commission" that successfully investigated alleged irregularities involving Swiss Banks as holders of unreported assets that had belonged to Jewish victims of the WW 2 Holocaust.Though Paul Volcker still lives (over 90) as I write this, he is unlikely to be remembered now (2018) by younger generations unless they are involved in the subjects of economics and the Federal Reserve. In that the aforementioned subjects don't generally interest the 'man in the street' or perhaps not even the general reader, I don't see this book as being a knockout of a seller other than to libraries, bankers, financial advisors and contemporaries of Dr. Volcker. I hope I am wrong about this.Readers will learn of the 'Triffin Dilemma' pertaining to the gold supply, and about Volcker's 'Three Verities' which he considers (and any citizen should consider) highly important to this country. They are (1), Stable Prices; (2), Sound Finance, and (3), Good Government.A certain revelation in this book that I was completely unaware of is the fact that President Reagan, in company with and via Chief of Staff Jim Baker, made an embarrassing demand of Chairman Volcker - a demand involving the interest rate level. (Pgs. 118-119).I highly recommend the book.

While he may have his critics, the reader is left with Volcker's strong desire for public service. Paul Volcker knocks the ball out of the park through his autobiography, published at the advanced age of 90. There’s something endearing about Volcker’s style: he comes off as a chip off the old block, approachable, a wise and simple man.Fiscal standards became unbridled proceeding August 1971 when the last vestige of the US Dollar Gold Convertibility Standard was dismantled by fiat. The money supply grew like never before and it eventually set off a wave of price inflation in major markets including the price of gasoline and cost of borrowing. Geopolitical events unraveling in the Middle East weren’t helping, and the US Dollar itself risked being speculated into oblivion.Paul Volcker may be considered “The Fed’s Last Hawk”. As chief of the Fed, he administered the medicine necessary to extinguish the United States’ epoch of inflation, or as he termed it, the Great Inflation. As the newly appointed Chairman of the Fed in 1979 with the inflation rate over 13 percent, Volcker wasted no time, immediately raising interest rates. His mission: “lead a war against inflation.”“I suppose if some Delphic oracle had whispered in my ear that our policy would result in interest rates of 20 percent or more, I might have packed my bags and headed home.”Indeed, at its peak: “the rate on three-month Treasury bills eventually exceeded 17 percent, the commercial bank prime lending rate peaked at 21.5 percent, and, most sensitively, mortgage rates surpassed 18 percent. Those rates had never been seen before in our financial history.” The unemployment rate proceeded to creep over ten percent, and a wave of bankruptcies pounded the Savings & Loans lending industry, crippling the economy into recession as the wicked chimera of stagflation roared.Stagflation is the economic phenomenon where price inflation and economic recession intersect. As a central banker, it is the most difficult balancing act, a central banking conundrum: do you raise the interest rate to combat inflation, or do you lower it to combat the recession? If you raise it to calm prices, you also cause the cost of borrowing to go up. If you lower it to stimulate financial facilities, money supply growth continues and the price level never ceases to increase.History proved Volcker right. Leading the Fed, his aggressive approach against inflation got prices under control, despite the severe market disruptions it caused. I am happy with my $5 purchase/no shipping of this portable, easy to read, intro to UU. It is my first UU book.

This is a quick overview of the UU religion. I was looking for a deeper discussion, but if I was completely new to the faith, Iit would have found it more helpful. Most of the information in it was available to me in the handouts available I received at the first service I attended.

An incredible journey into understanding one of the best religions I have come to encounter. I am blessed to have found my spiritual home and one that I believe should be shared. Without understanding the basics of Unitarian Universalism one can easily be distant from the opportunities of spiritual development.

A nice short introduction to Unitarian Universalism with principles, readings, and history to give a basic understanding of this religion that is based on love, service, and inclusiveness and where you do not have "to check your brain in at the door." This 77 page book is far from comprehensive but will give the reader enough knowledge to understand this religion and possibly even encourage some to find out more. I made many notes and references to various pages in the book to come back to later.

I've recently rediscovered my faith, and this book is a wonderful way to dive back in. I feel that this has been my faith since the day I was born. I also feel if more people knew about our faith, the numbers of the UU faithful would be much larger.

Worthwhile read for anyone searching.

This book is a terrific primer for people interested in the perspectives and (openness of) belief system of Unitarian Universalists. In addition to quotes and descriptions it also provides plenty of resources for additional information.

Good start to understanding their beliefs.

Positives:I bought this book to help me teach my son guitar. It is ideal for the beginner. It gives the new student basic songs combined with some underlying music understanding so they experience success right away, which encourages them to practice. By the end of the book, they will be playing some complicated songs and have good command of the musical knowledge underlying it. Bear in mind, this is not a "music theory" book - this is "practical guitar" with a little bit of theory. For the experienced player - or self taught hack like me, there are plenty of songs in here to increase your play list and you'll have a great time doing it. Everything from Elvis, to Bob Marley, to Britney Spears. Justin did a great job putting together a portfolio of songs that any musician is going to enjoy playing. I highly recommend this book.Negatives:The only negative I give this book is the binding. It should be coil bound so it will lay flat for easy use while playing!

Justin Sandercoe is a great teacher. I hope he gets a fair portion from this sale. Videos of the songs are available at justinguitar.com where he goes into detail about playing each song and giving additional tips. But it's helpful to have this book to complement the videos. The difficulty of the songs corresponds with Justin's beginners course - also available for free at justinguitar.com

So far so good! I love the variety of songs. Of course, I am in my 50's so any oldie is a goodie! I do one or two lessons a day with Justins videos. This is a great beginner book for adults! Justin is a fun person to watch on his videos. I love his english accent, and i learn new "english" words every day! The great thing is he teaches you and then has linkable YouTube videos to play along with the original artist. And, he always makes sure you capo to the fret so you can sing and play along. Loads of fun so far!

I can play a few chords already, & until I got this book I never realized how many songs I can play. The lessons are very simple and some would say the sounds are wrong and they would technically be right. There are a lot of resources for learning songs out there, practicing the correct way to play is ideal. It's still a good book and I don't plan quitting based on criticism. Let's face it, good guitar players are typically pretentious and if they can correct you they will. I wouldn't book a show based on the songs I learned here, unless it was just friends and family.

I have been struggling, trying to play the guitar. I learned to play a few chords but never could play a song. This book is amazing how it draws you along at your pace. So far I'm very impressed. The reason I gave it 4 stars is that it is not spiral bound. If you want this spiraled go to Staples and they will cut off the binding and spiral bind it for $ 4.00 That is the only problem I've seen so far it's proven to be a great book for Me.

As a beginner, it is super helpful to have an accessible songbook at hand, and it helps that Justin is an amazing teacher. Using this book along with the free online lessons, I have made substantial progress. It has a solid variety of songs from different genres, with excellent explanations, including approaches for initially playing songs before using more complicated strumming patterns.If you are new to guitar, or just want to learn some easy and fun songs, I highly recommend this book.

This book works as a standalone song book, but pairs with Justin's beginner course. It's critical to practice your learned chords and changes, and it's one of the best books out there as the songs advance in complexity along with your lessons and experience. The real benefit of the song book is you'll be able to play songs regardless of skill level - there's a song for each level of advancement. Highly recommend!

The book has many great songs you know and love but, it also has one of my favorite songs by John Lennon; "Working Class Hero"! If you need pictures for the chords, you'll get them when learning the few new ones but then, when playing the song, you'll only have the chord names. (no pics). I feel it's a great way of learning because you have to stretch your mind to remember. PS You can always turn back to refresh the memory too!

I try not to make comments about the items that I purchase, Although this time.. I'm a little taking back by the condition of the item that I purchased. The outside of the Box of the product looked as though it was used and chewed on by small rodents.. I'm not opposed to medicine, but why not make some lifestyle changes to limit my medicinal needs? I have changed my diet based on the recommendations in the book, and I have SO MUCH MORE ENERGY than I had 6 months ago. Additionally, based on Dr. Blum's recommendations in the book, I was tested for Celiac Disease. I was surprised to find that I have antibodies that show a gluten intolerance. I am not one to jump on fad diets, so going gluten-free never crossed my mind. However, now that I know that my body is being harmed by gluten, I will be gluten-free for the rest of my life. It's been a bit harder implementing the stress reduction strategies recommended in the book, but I'll be working on that for the rest of my life. I am not exaggerating when I say that this book has been life-changing and empowering. I still struggle with my recent diagnoses, but I know that I can control some aspects of how quickly they progress. Great purchase!I hope this review has been helpful for you! First, the positive. This book has a lot of information, it is very informative. It sounds like she really knows what she is talking about and the program, although very diet restrictive and long looks pretty good at restoring health.The one problem I have that I did not see in others reviews is it is very expensive. Once you get to the part with the plans details...there is a 30 day gut cleanse plan and then a 21 day liver detox plan...you see all the supplements you need to purchase (sold in kits on her website) and man is it expensive. As of now. The gut cleanse is $295 and the liver is $175. You then can purchase the relax kit for the relaxation portion and purchase the recipe books as well. Both my husband and I have an auto immune of reactive arthritis, spondyloarthritis and this would cost us about $1,000 for for the two of us to have 51 days of supplements. That's some very expensive supplements!!! I am sure they are good and if it would completely cure us that would be great. Unfortunately, we are low income and can not afford it so that's that. I just wanted to let everyone know before they purchase the book. I may just do a juice cleanse like Joe cross ( I think that was his name) in fat sick and nearly dead (documentary) as that seemed to cure his auto immune and I can afford that.

There is some very solid advice in this book and good discussions of how the immune system works that will probably interest people who suffer from any autoimmune condition. I really like the author's approach to the "whole patient," especially her understanding that stress and sleep are vital factors in determining overall health. She gives practical suggestions that are easy to implement. She does an excellent job of helping the reader figure out where to focus their energies, providing in-depth assessments for various areas such as lifestyle, diet, and toxin exposure. None of them helped me in my particular case, since my disease began so long ago there is nothing currently triggering it, but I think someone newly diagnosed would find her approach to be a godsend. She writes as if she is in the exam room with you, patiently holding your hand. I also liked her approach to diet in general, and I managed to lose a few pounds and have more stable energy by following her advice, even though it did nothing for my immune issues.However, there are some caveats. I found this book recommended in IG Living as important reading for people with any kind of immune system dysfunction. I had really high hopes since the book starts out by seeming very moderate and science-based, and the author has training in both allopathic medicine and public health. Unfortunately, midway through the book I realized that it contains the same old litany of health-related fads that one finds circulating across the internet in abundance wherever there are desperately sick individuals: in online forums, mailing lists, and social media groups. The recommendations won't surprise anyone: go gluten, sugar, and dairy free; eat organic, whole foods; take lots of vitamins and supplements, and examine your environment for "toxins." Worse, the book is tied to the author's own business of selling custom supplement packages. I have a distrust of anyone who peddles such things, as I believe any doctor worth their salt should not be promising results without clinical trials. The book follows a trend I find troubling where holistic practitioners are recommending off-label uses of various tests and therapies and treating with subclinical results. Common suggestions are extensive food allergy testing, heavy metal chelation without evidence of toxicity, and treatment of thyroid disease even when TSH levels do not suggest autoimmunity.Bottom line, if you are into holistic or functional medicine, this book is probably your bag, but as with any serious illness, don't disregard the advice of your care team of medical specialists. Don't read this book thinking that you're going to find the "miracle cure" for your disease. It will probably help you manage things and feel better, but there are no guarantees.

I was diagnosed with RA 5 years ago at the age of 25, I attempted several medications for a relief of symptoms. The medications caused side effects and gave me no real relief from RA symptoms at all. I found a holistic dr who told me about this book. I follow this book strictly and with the diet requirements and the supplements suggested. This book has been a life saver, I have my life back! I do still have days of flares but nothing like what I was going through. I am on no medication and control this disease with diet and supplements alone. Anyone battling or know someone battling an autoimmune disease needs this book!!
